Black and White and out of sight

So last week was a whirlwind of work and oddly enough most of it in black white. These first ones down here are some reference photo's for a Street Justice piece.

And the end result is this life size monstrosity. I had to put it through a giant scanner on a OCE printer... unfortunately the file is way to big to post... it's gonna take a while to compress

This one's a piece for one of my favorite David Lynch movie the Elephant Man.

And now for some Bonus Sketches!

been really getting into this new kind of ink drawing. It's like making a Zen garden fit into something

the great Meredith had a great sci fi themed costume in acrylic painting. Donno if she'd be cool with me posting the full costume but here's a nice portrait sketch

Pre holiday knockouts

Another week gone by and the christmas season is fast upon us... I still donno what to get peeps. Probably prints and comics I still got from the CCA holiday art fair this weekend...hmmm. Anyway here's what i've been up to in the meantime.

Galactic Goons gerfuffle germanic giants and gravel golems gathering gold. For those of you that don't know what gerfuffle means it's like kerfuffle but with a "G".

Some bonus sketches I got some drawings done at the holiday fair. I've been trying out this new brush technique thing out

Ooooh soo conceptual

Thanksgiving leftovers!

It's that time of the year again were we give thanks and then eat cold turkey for the next three weeks... but guess what's even better. Art leftovers!! These are some unposted works I've been saving in the refrigerator for a while. enjoy!

stay posted for the finished version of this one. for now it's the color study but soon it shall be an epic battle butterfly

this one is titled technological romance... draw your own conclusions

In the Northwest we’ll sometimes have crab instead of turkey but that’s only if you can dive down deep into the puget sound naked and do battle with the crab king and slice off one of his claws for your family… so it’s only for special occasions

Neil Gaiman and optical illusions

This week's project was for the book "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman. The who;e book has a ton of lively characters to get inspired from but for this one I was trying to focus on the fact that all these characters have a have a hidden identity as old world gods that isn't revealed for a while.

Don't get too close to an optical illusion. It'll mess yer face up!

Rock and Roll and Zombies galore

This week had some cool projects. This first one is for it's all about the devils music Rock N Roll, suckin the soul out of ya in exchange for guitar skills.

And this is a two page spread about Killer apps
and apparently the word application extends to things that revolutionized their field.

Brent Hind: Metal as fuck

Brent Hinds is one of my favorite metal musicians in the ridiculously awesome band Mastodon. An all around badass from the face tattoo to his guitar skills, I was so stoked to get to do a portrait of him for some self promotion. He is the demon lord of smoke and water.

Bonus Material: prelims and new sketches!

he looks like a sunflower in this one

Woa this could be a halloween mask

I had this idea right after I finished the piece. I'm totally gonna do this sometime in the future.

wine label project

this is a wine label I completed for a project. I like it alright but the best part of this project was finding out the glitch on mac preview

the weird thing that's been happening with mac preview for me is when I save huge tiff files as smaller jpegs they invert the colors and when I use photoshop to reverse the process the colors it seems that they go total psychedelic and damn interesting

this ones my favorite

...It got progressively pixelated

Thunder club posters

So funnily enough in my main classes in illustration i've been  doing primarily digital work. However I got a math class that's letting me create stuff based on my interpretation of mathematic ideas and the work for that class has been all in traditional media. Which is been good because it's allowed me to simply interpret and make something cool without to much worry about critique.

these above were made to show off the principle of the triangle as the strongest shape within their composition. Also they are rock posters for a fictional club and band.

These two were actually reworked compositions from preliminary sketches for other projects. the ideas in the originals didn't work but I enjoyed the initial composition.

food as fashion illustration

This piece is all about transforming a type of food into an outfit. This particular one is Massaman Curry. A curry invented by the Thai and heavily influenced by muslim traders. The colors, patterns and accessories represent a specific ingredient.  The head scarf is the chilies, outer shirt, red curry paste, undershirt, brown rice, the belt, limes, the pants are  peanuts, the gun is cinnamon and the shoes are bay leafs. the mask is nothing because masks are cool.

pre color work

Because I was trying some odd perspectives in this one I had to take some sweet sweet reference photos! Courtesy of my roommate Chen
