Sockdrawer comics: new zine sensation!

So for this semester I've been organizing an awesome zine venture with some amazing friends and artists. Zack Rowden, Will Durkee, Alex Sodari, Speth Szabo, Hannah Knight, Dan bun and Riley Burkshire. I'm supper excited for this collaboration! So excited that I hand screen printed the covers for the first run! If every thing goes according to plan the zine should be exhibiting/selling at bookish beast, CCA spring fair and SF Zinefest and perhaps APE. Keep looking forward to more updates!

Street Justice ch 4?

I'm gonna be honest guys. I wrote this whole sequence as kinda of a whole unto it's own and wasn't sure quite how to integrated in the overall storyline I have for Street Justice and now thinking about it to greater length if I place this in ch3 it'll ... I don't know fit quite so well. I know that might not make sense but I'm pushing this back to ch 4 for it to fit better. Eh working ahead I guess but I'll tell you something I'll tell you the plot of ch3. Street Justice goes to the Thunder Club a once every ten year concert held in a hotel that was sunken beneath the city by an earthquake. His mission to sever the horn of the greater demon lord that's hosting it.

Street Justice Ch 3 Preveiw

I've been working this new chapter for Street Justice since mid December and so far I'm 8 pages in. When I get 10 pages in I'll post another 5 pages but for now enjoy the mystery and adventure of Street Justice Ch 3.

The Process post

aaah. Just finished a monster of a piece this weekend and in doing so it made me realize something. My process changes from piece but with this one I enjoyed more then others in quite some time. so I figured I'd beef this post up and explain a bit about what I do.

First off this piece is based on a dream in which I was watching a ghost hunting show on tv. I get interested in it so I phase through the tv and find my self in a dark forest. after wandering for a bit I come across a rustling sound up ahead. I run in to a clearing and see a antelope carcass in the tree. I look up and see a gaggle of hyenas with human hands eating the antalope. This freaks the hell out of me so I phase back through the tv. Freaky right?

What I focus on is getting a tight sketch done. Once that's done I need to figure how to transfer my lines to my final. for this one I made the sketch smaller then scaled it so I could to print the final sketch out on velum which would allow me to trace behind it and do some textures on top of it.

I trace the sketch onto some bristol paper with saral blue tracing paper. This takes me some time as you can see it switches from day to night between pictures.

I find the most important part of how the piece will turn out is how solid I interpreted my lines form my final sketch. digital coloring is a whole different topic of discussion that I don't know if I'm ready to examine but one day... one day.

Also if you find your self in Rockridge area Oakland look up the Isabel Percy West gallery at CCA. Me and a few awesome artists, Tamara Chang, Michelle Lagasca and Chen Chen will be exhibiting with me! Come check it out!
