New stuff: an interesting direction

so i've been finding as I have fun with alternative mark making it gets incorporated into my current work. Also i've been trying out new kinds of compositions. I always used to kind of use dynamic angles but now I'm experimenting with framing devices to take the place of those angles. The following is the best examples.

Here's one of the best examples... or rather a finished piece. It's done with a technique taught to me by the great Grim Wilkins. here's his stuff http://grimwilkins.blogspot.com/ I submitted this to the society of Illustrator's competition so I'm crossing my fingers in hopes I might place. 

This one is what started off the experimentation.Organic forms make for a great decorative framing device specially trees... trees are cool. I officially love dried out crayola makers. so many gradients done with fine lines. yeah!

Mr. Sacface character design

I've started production on the second issue of "Street Justice" and before I did i had been doing a good deal of character design. This is Mr. Sacface a silent but kind hearted zombie killing badass with a secret under his sac mask.I may not plan on using him for this upcoming issue but rest assured you'll see him in the future

Mammoth Wang album art

A good friend of mine is the drummer for a band called Mammoth Wang. They're a prog metal band and i was lucky enough to sit in on a couple jam sessions to get inspirations for this piece. Surprisingly elephant skulls are harder to make look cool than you think. I ended up using a lot of reference because they're long like a horse skull but also wide... still on their own skulls are badass and i think this pulls it off quite well.

 here's a piece with a bit of a story. Poor lumber jack... all he wanted was to be left alone but they forced him to get a haircut. That was the last straw! now he's out for revenge with a baseball bat full of nails and barb wire. Look for this character in future editions of Street Justice.
